Immerse & Tick
We were thrilled to take part in this year’s S’Art Festival in beautiful Battambang, Cambodia. The mural’s concept revisits a piece from Dom’s Zoetic series, which explores the symbiotic relationships found in nature. Originally inspired by our time in Southeast Asia in 2020, it felt especially fitting to reimagine the work as a large-scale mural in Cambodia—on the walls of a Buddhist temple—where themes of interconnection, symbolic storytelling through animals, and sustainability deeply resonate.
At the center of the composition stands a water buffalo, a powerful emblem in Cambodian culture symbolizing strength, endurance, and the sacred bond between people and the land. Traditionally an essential partner in rice farming, the buffalo represents resilience, nourishment, and harmony with nature. Surrounding it are fish and a white egret—species that naturally coexist in a delicate balance. Together, these elements of earth, air, and water form a poetic metaphor for the interconnectedness of all living things, including our own place within that web. A single fish rendered in chrome serves as a quiet reminder of the growing tension between the natural and industrial worlds. Above the mural, sketch-like lines weave through the scene, bridging Dom’s distinct visual styles and symbolizing the idea that every journey—creative or otherwise—begins with a single step.
A heartfelt thank you to Fonki for the invitation, to the many organizers who made this year’s festival possible, and to our amazing assistant Seavhuo. Most of all, our gratitude goes to Dodo—the nine-year-old neighbor who spent his days in front of the mural sketching, chatting, and lending a hand with the painting. His joy and curiosity captured the true spirit of community that this mural represents.
